Catching Up With Yoga Instructor Beth Stuart
Tell us a bit about yourself? How did you get to where you are today?
I am a full time yoga teacher in Sun Valley, Idaho. I travel around the world teaching but this is home.
I think I am where I am because I’m not afraid to ask for what I want. I also made a promise to myself to say yes to every opportunity that came my way. In the beginning of any career a lot of unpaid opportunities are presented to you. You have to look at it like an investment in your future!
What is one of the most important lessons you have learnt as a yoga instructor?
I think the most important lesson I have learned as a yoga teacher is to just be me, and to teach what I know. When you are authentic it works, when you are trying to be like someone else it doesn’t.
What daily habits keep you productive?
Yoga! ;) but also I have a 6 year old son. He has autism. He keeps me present and in check.
Why is health and fitness a priority for you?
When we think about life we think about the longevity, and quality of it. In order to sustain that you must move your body and nourish it. I think it’s a no brainer.
What are your thoughts on that elusive work/life/balance combination?
I feel super fortunate that my work is also my passion. It’s totally different. But theres a balance to it all. It’s like being able to listen to the logical mind and the heart….we need both/all.
What is your favourite way to exercise?
To get outside or on my mat. I’m attracted to space…. I get that if I hit the hills or move on my mat.
What are your thoughts on mistakes, challenges or failures?
I’ve made plenty of mistakes, and I’ll continue to make them. I don’t really believe in calling them that though. As long as we learn from them then that was the purpose. This is how we grow.
If you could share one piece of wisdom to your teenage self what would it be?
To love myself more.
What is your favourite mantra or motivational saying?
There are SO many! Here’s one…
“Perfect and bulletproof are seductive, but they don’t exist in the human experience.” - Brene Brown
Finally, At Vie Active we celebrate the notion of being FLAWSOME, realising that we can’t always be perfect and that our imperfectness is what makes us who we are – what makes you FLAWSOME?
I’m flawsome because I'm human. Because I'm not afraid to fall. Because I don't have to be perfect. People say to me all the time,"You must not drink wine, or eat sugar, or get mad at your child"…It’s like really??? I’m no different. The gift is, that I have Yoga to keep me in check.
